DTV Exchange LLC (DTV Exchange) was founded in 2003 by Rick W. Barber. Located in Slidell, Louisiana DTV Exchange evolved from Mr. Barber's over 25 years of experience in the military, manufacturing and television broadcast industries. DTV Exchange is focused on the development of new products and technology to assist in the DTV transition as well as the DVB-ASI interface standard.
DTV Exchange is a Service-disabled veteran-owned business.
Background
In 2001, as the DTV transition began, Rick Barber realized the potential of a niche market in an evolving industry, thus prompting an interest in pursuing a business opportunity suited to his expertise. Mr. Barber's vision for DTV Exchange was to create a company and supporting website to assist in the transition (Exchange) from analog to digital television.
In early 2002, Mr. Barber began experimenting with the conversion of 8VSB to NTSC signals. He realized very quickly that DTV to NTSC conversion equipment could greatly improve signal reception on cable systems nationwide. He also realized that systems like this would be required for many years even after analog transmitters were mandated to be turned off by the FCC.
Shortly thereafter, Mr. Barber, under the name DTV Exchange created a DTV-to-NTSC receiver that also provided a full bandwidth ASI HDTV signal out of the same device. These decoders have become well known for their superior performance in over-the-air DTV reception, while supplying both the digital and analog tiers of many cable systems. The ATSC mandate has focused DTV Exchange to create the best "Off Air" analog signals on cable, TV translators, LPTV and SMATV systems, as well as ASI digital HDTV signals to date.
Over the course of a few years DTV Exchange have become experts in HDTV and in the DVB-ASI interface. DTV Exchange is currently focusing it's efforts on converter products dealing with HD-SDI and DVB-ASI decoding, transcoding, distribution, monitoring and testing.
